Aneralla Releases Energy Plan
Huntersville, NC: John Aneralla, Conservative small businessman and Republican candidate for North Carolina's 41st State Senate District, released his comprehensive plan for dealing with rising energy prices and the need to increase the domestic supply of energy.
"First we must cut North Carolina's Gas Tax," Aneralla said upon releasing his plan. "Thanks to the highest Gas Tax in the South, NC families are getting squeezed at the pump being forced to pay 20 to 30 cents more per gallon for gas than our neighbors to the South! That is unacceptable."
"Then we must open North Carolina's onshore and offshore energy reserves for exploration," Aneralla continued. "We must not continue to give in to the extremists who have hijacked our state's energy policy and have kept us from exploring and utilizing our state's energy resources. By tapping into our onshore and offshore energy reserves we can create nearly 10,000 jobs here in North Carolina, we can lower energy costs for North Carolina families and businesses, and we can do our part to make our nation more secure by increasing our nation's energy independence."
Aneralla's plan consists of the following solutions that will lower fuel prices, create jobs, grow our economy and strengthen our national security by increasing our energy independence:
- Lowering North Carolina's Gas Tax Now. North Carolina has the highest gas tax in the South and the 6th highest in the nation. 22 cents higher than South Carolina. 19 cents higher than Virginia. 18 cents higher than Tennessee. Almost 16 cents higher than Massachusetts. This is unacceptable. As your State Senator, I will push to lower North Carolina's Gas Tax so that it is in line with our neighboring states. This will lower costs for all North Carolina families and it will create jobs by reducing the cost of doing business in North Carolina.
- Beginning Energy Exploration and Drilling off the Coast of North Carolina. North Carolina has over 60 million acres of federal offshore waters, the largest on the Atlantic Coast, and these waters contain large untapped energy reserves, primarily natural gas. Opening these areas to exploration will create 6,700 new jobs in North Carolina and will add $659 million annually to our state's GDP.
- Tapping into North Carolina's Inland Shale Gas Reserves through Hydraulic Fracturing. The North Carolina Department of Environmental and Natural Resources has extensively studied the use of fracking to tap into North Carolina's Shale Gas reserves. They have concluded that this can be done safely and that allowing this would create 2,709 new jobs in North Carolina and would increase our yearly economic output by $450 million per year.
- North Carolina's Renewable Energy and Energy Effiency Industries. The renewable energy and energy efficiency industries in North Carolina are comprised of over 1,100 companies that employ more than 12,500 North Carolinians. Companies in these industries created 2,500 new jobs in 2010, alone. We must create an environment that will allow these industries to succeed and to continue to create new jobs by limiting regulation and government interference.

Aneralla Stands With Cornelius and Lake Norman Property Owners
Calls For An Independent Audit of the Reval
Huntersville, NC: Last night, John Aneralla, small businessman and conservative Republican candidate for NC's 41st Senate District, joined residents of Cornelius and Lake Norman at the Mecklenburg County Board of Commissioner's meeting where they showed their unified opposition to the County's recent property revaluation process.
"I am proud to stand with the people of North Mecklenburg, and I was proud to sign their petition requesting the Commissioners authorize an independent audit of the appraisal process," Aneralla said in a statement this morning. "When looking at a review of the revaluation conducted by North Mecklenburg residents, it's obvious that the manner in which the initial appraisal was done did not meet state requirements, that the 'stigma adjustments' that occurred in some areas but not others resulted in discriminatory treatment of property owners under the law, and that the appeals process was not carried out openly and fairly. This is not right and it cannot be allowed to stand."
Aneralla will continue to actively stand with North Mecklenburg in their fight to have the revaluation process independently audited and to have properties appraised in a way that is fair to all. Aneralla also pledges as the next State Senator of the 41st District, he will actively push for the state to re-examine the requirements they set for property revaluations by counties and municipalities to ensure that there are proper safeguards in place to guarantee that every property owner is treated equally and fairly and to make certain that the revaluation process undertaken by our counties and municipalities fully complies with state guidelines.

State Senate Candidate John Aneralla Rejects Red Line Project Favoring Feasible Transportation Solutions for All of the 41st District
Huntersville, NC: Today, John Aneralla, small businessman and conservative Republican candidate for North Carolina's 41st State Senate District called on the North Carolina Department of Transportation and local transportation officials across the North Mecklenburg region to implement practical solutions that will address the region's transportation challenges and to abandon their failed and unrealistic plans for the Red Line Regional Rail project.
"With the recent input from Norfolk Southern, unanimous rejection by Iredell County commissioners, the recent report of the Cornelius Rail task force, and the previous rejection of the project by the federal government, it's time for transportation officials to admit what the rest of us have known for months. The Red Line Regional Rail project at this time is not feasible and it is not currently a viable solution for transportation issues in North Mecklenburg," Aneralla said. "The current funding system is neither workable nor sustainable. The project lacks the essential support of key stakeholders such as Norfolk Southern, the North Carolina General Assembly, and directly affected land owners. Instead of wasting more time and tax dollars pursuing the Red Line, it's time for our transportation leaders to pursue realistic solutions to our region's transportation challenges."
Aneralla proposed that the North Carolina Department of Transportation divert the time and money they are wasting on the Red Line to transportation projects that will benefit citizens across the 41st Senate District. These include:
- Accelerating the widening of I-77 from Exit 18 through the North Mecklenburg communities of Huntersville, Cornelius, and Davidson
- Improving East-West connectivity in North Mecklenburg
- Improving infrastructure around the new Mint Hill mall
- Extending McKee Road and improving roads around the new athletic park in Matthews
Aneralla further proposed that since the residents of Cornelius, Davidson, Huntersville, Matthews and Mint Hill all pay more tax dollars to support CATS than are spent by CATS in those communities, Aneralla called on CATS to pursue new park & rides (such as at Exit 28 in Cornelius),, more rapid express buses for commuters into Charlotte, additional loop routes between the communities, and smaller, fuel efficient buses for the shorter loop routes. Finally, Aneralla also called for the implementation of an independent oversight committee to oversee the allocation of funds by CATs to ensure that all communities receive the necessary transit dollars to meet their needs.
"I want to thank the many elected officials and staff for their hard work in assessing the viability of the Red line," Aneralla added. "It's time to move on and look at other solutions that are going to have an immediate positive impact on our region. As your next State Senator, I will fight to ensure that no more of our tax dollars and no more of the DOT's time are wasted."

September 2011 - I want to thank everyone for their support in my run for NC State Senate District 40 in 2010. Although the outcome was not what we had worked for, Republicans did earn the majorities in both State houses for the first time in over 100 years. The Republican majority in its first year faced with a large deficit balanced the budget while lowering taxes, eliminating burdensome regulations and improving our educational system. There is still much work to be done! This is why I am excited to announce my candidacy for the NC State Senate in the newly created District 41. The new district consists of the towns of Davidson, Cornelius, Huntersville then moves clockwise to include neighborhoods in Charlotte located east of I-485, Mint Hill, Matthews and then finishes near Providence Road. I look forward to the challenge of running for office and hopefully making history by being a part of a Republican legislative majority with a Republican Governor in 2013!
